Make Money On The Internet With Adsense
How to make money online with adsense?
This is a question I get from my readers over and over again. Too often my friends, the story goes like this. New blogger is happy to start blogging about their passion. Unfortunately, their passion is measuring the attention span of a gnat. Now there are lots of gnat enthusiasts out there and he/she gets a rabid following. After years of hard work, he/she is the proud owner of a list of thousands of people who are interested in gnats.
Well, they also have a whopping $0.30 in their adsense account. But they wanted to make money online with adsense so what happened? Well, there were no advertisers in this niche and those that were wanted to sell bug spray so nobody clicked on the ads which, as it turns out, were worth less than $0.01/click anyway.
Does this in any way sound familiar? If it does, read on my friend. OK, now that we found out how not to make money with adsense, let’s talk about how to do it right. First off, stay away from the real big niches like credit, weight loss, insurance, etc. Those niches are great income generators but they have some really big guns taking up the top spots in the big “G” so you aren’t going to get there anytime soon. Start small, make some money, go and do it again with a more competitive niche.
How about an example instead of theory? OK, today I was looking for window blinds for one of my windows. I was thinking that this might make an interesting niche so I wrote it down in my idea book. I have decided to share it with you here. Let’s do some keyword research on “window blinds”. In case you’re new here, keywords and keyword phrases are what people type into search engines to find what they are looking for. Go to google’s external keyword tool and take a look Google Keyword Tool. OK, you should do a couple of things first, change the “match type” selection to “phrase” to get a more clear indication of phrase search volume. Also, change the “Choose columns to display” value to display CPC which stands for cost per click so you can get an idea of what top advertisers pay for each click.
The next step is to find a keyword with decent search volume, nice CPC, and low competition (ideally under 20K competing pages). It turns out that the keyword phrase “blinds for windows” has an average of 2,400 searches per month, a NICE CPC of $7.29 per click! (top spot, search only, content network will vary) and only a paltry 13,400 competing pages.
If you were wondering how I got the number of competing pages, go to Google.com and type in “blinds for windows” with the quotes and you’ll see the number of pages with this phrase. You need to find at least 10-20 “good” keywords like this to start. Once you get indexed for the more specific keywords and phrases, then you can work your way up to “window blinds” which has over 200K searches/month and over 2.6 million competing pages.
Now that you have your niche, your keywords, all you need is a domain name. Put all your main keywords into the name, this is important. For this niche, I would choose something like this: howtochoosewindowblinds.com or a similar name and try to keep it as short as possible.
Once a suitable name is found, write your 10 articles. Post them one every other day or so. After you post, get relevant links back to your site by posting on forums, posting on related blogs (don’t spam), writing and submitting articles to article directories, etc. Once you have a few relevant inbound links, you will start to see traffic and income that is worth the time and effort of posting.
Well, I hope this little primer on making money with adsense helped you out at least a little. I myself am involved in over 200 niches and I continue to learn new things every day. I wish I had read an article like I just wrote when I was starting out because I have lots of blogs with $0.01 clicks
Oh well, you learn by doing and failing, doing and failing, doing and maybe succeeding, you get the idea.
